4U-8U Division

This division is the building blocks for soccer moving forward. Upon completing this program, children have the option to tryout for the Academy Soccer Program at 10U, the Travel Soccer Program at 12U and up, or to remain in the Recreation Soccer Program. With the exception of 4U which has no games, all levels in the 6U and 8U will have one practice and one Saturday game a week. Practices have an experienced coach that plans the practices and helps new coaches acclimate to coaching. The games are four 10 minute quarters with two minutes between quarters, and a 5 minute halftime. A coach from each team will be on the field and will referee the games. The focus at this level is mainly having fun, learning rules, and the very basics of soccer.

U4 Coed

The primary focus of this 4U division is simply to get the kids excited about soccer and to get them to understand that it is primarily a sport where you use your feet to move a ball in a particular direction. By the end of the 4U season, players should be comfortable moving about with a ball at their feet.

The 4U division practices once a week. There are no games in this division but we do have 2 Showcase Saturdays!

U6 Coed

1 weekly practice and 1 weekly Saturday game.  The 6U division is for children 6 years old and under. The focus is mainly on ball control and ball movement. There is typically very little passing in this league, and it is not something that is focused on in practices. At this age, players will be assigned to a team and coached by parent volunteers.

U8 Coed

1 weekly practice and 1 Saturday game.  The 8U division is for children 8 years old and under. The focus of this division is mainly learning about the team aspect of the game. If the players have learned a good foundation of ball handling skills, then the next step is to teach passing and positioning. The goal in this division is for all of the kids to start to become true soccer players. They should start to learn to look for passing opportunities when they have the ball and when they don't have the ball to learn to move into positions to receive a pass. Also the players should become more aggressive on the field and really start attacking the ball to gain possession.  At this age, players will be assigned to a team and coached by parent volunteers.

10U - 18U

These divisions have one practice game a week and one game on Saturdays. GCAA makes their best attempt to accommodate practice day requests but ultimately are bound to the days the volunteer coaches are available. At these age groups you can expect to have some away games in Johnston County and South Wake County especially in the girls divisions. This division also introduces non-partial paid referees, but scores and standings are not kept. Players also have the option to tryout for the Academy Soccer Program at 10U, the Travel Soccer Program at U12 and up, or to remain in the Recreation Soccer Program.
